Dr. Jason Pintar is a graduate of The New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. He completed a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Jason returned to Cornell University for his residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Pintar joined the GSVS team in 2004 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Christian Charlton has rejoined our ER team after running his own emergency facility in his hometown of New Orleans for the last couple of years. He originally came to GSVS in 2012 for advanced training in Emergency and Critical Care. He then continued that training at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. Dr. Charlton is a graduate of the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and gained his DVM degree at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Charlton enjoyed his ‘first career’ as an avid snowboarder – riding mountains in Western U.S.A. and down under in New Zealand – and a bartender (to pay the bills!). He is excited to be back at the Jersey Shore to rejoin the GSVS family and their multiple facilities. Dr. Charlton’s interests in Emergency Medicine include acute trauma patient stabilization, management of small animal intoxications, and respiratory emergencies. His 2 dogs – Ebby & The Dude – as well his cat Ghost have all transitioned well to life at the Shore.
Dr. Sarah Round knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian; therefore, after graduating from Colgate University in 2006, she traveled to Michigan to pursue her veterinary degree. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010, where she was awarded the Small Animal Award in Surgery. Her training continued and she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in 2011. During her internship her love for surgery grew and she knew she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary surgery. By July 2012, Dr. Round had completed a one year speciality surgical internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists. In July 2015 she completed a three year surgical residency at Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Center (VSEC) in Levittown and Philadelphia, PA. Following her residency Dr. Round was eager and excited to return to the GSVS family. Sarah became a board certified surgeon in 2018. Dr. Round's surgical interests include hepatobiliary surgery, laparoscopic surgery, urogenital surgery and various orthopedic surgeries including stifle surgery (TPLO) and fracture repair. In her free time Dr. Round enjoys hiking with her husband and their rambunctious mixed breed dog, Ella.
Dr. Ryan Keegan attended the University of Notre Dame and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. He then completed a one year rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital. Dr. Keegan’s love for cardiology came after adopting an amazing little poodle named Boo with heart disease during veterinary school who eventually lost his battle after 5 years of friendship. He thankfully contributes the quality of Boo’s wonderful life to the expertise of several cardiologists and veterinarians over that time. So with a fascination for cardiovascular physiology and improving the quality of life of animals with heart disease, Dr. Keegan completed a 3 year residency in cardiology at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital and received Board Certification (Specialty of Cardiology) in 2014. His goal is to provide the most accurate diagnosis, prognosis, and quality-of-life tailored treatment for your pet’s heart condition. Dr. Keegan enjoys swimming, the beach, and participating in rescue/shelter work. He resides with his wife and a loving pack of dogs and cats.
Dr. Arye is a 2012 graduate of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. Irina completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Coughlin is a 2015 graduate of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. Kelly completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Marcus is a 2011 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Sarah completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Kent was born and raised in Monmouth County. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Penn State University before traveling to Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine in Southern California. Dr. Kent completed a 1-year small animal rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus, NJ. In his spare time, Dr. Kent enjoys hiking and camping, exploring state and national parks, and watching the Penn State Nittany Lions play football.
Maria is a 2018 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical year at the University Of Minnesota School Of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Cordero completed an Emergency Veterinarian Training Program at Garden State Veterinary Specialists before joining the GSVS family of hospitals as an emergency doctor.
The Internal Medicine Department encompasses the disciplines of endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology/urology, and respiratory disease. In addition, patients suspected of having cancer or of being hyperthyroid are first evaluated by the Internal Medicine Department. GSVServices' Boarded Internist, Jason Pintar, Dvm, DACVIM, performs and interprets abdominal and thoracic ultrasound procedures and video endoscopy including, rhinoscopy, gastroduodenoscopy, broncoscopy, proctoscopy/colonoscopy, cystoscopy and vaginoscopy. Dr. Pintar also administers endocrine testing, such as, adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid, insulin and sex hormone evaluations. Bone marrow biopsies and aspirates, in addition to tumor biopsies are also performed.

The Surgery Department accepts referrals on orthopedic, thoracic, abdominal, reconstructive, and neurosurgical cases. GSVServices surgeons utilize the very latest equipment and are proficient in many procedures including Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO) and Biometrix hip implant procedures. The hospital is equipped with surgical stapling devices, vessel sealing devices, an intra-operative microscope, digital radiography and fluoroscopy.
Surgery is scheduled according to the urgency of the patient’s condition; priority is given to critical patients and fracture cases. Referring veterinarians are updated on the condition of the patient post-operatively.Written reports detailing the patient’s diagnosis, treatment and prognosis are also sent.
