Born and raised on the North Shore, Liz has always had a passion for cats. Growing up close to a golf course, she welcomed the many strays who wandered her way and, with a father who loved cats as much as she did, the furry family soon outnumbered the humans! One very special cat that came into her life was Juniper. This bright-eyed cat was truly a character... male, orange, loving and demanding — they were a team. And due to the curiosity of the cat he naturally spent a lot of time at the veterinarians'. Managing to survive being run over and attacked by coyotes, he finally succumbed to feline leukemia at 19 years old. But his spirit lived on and became a driving force behind Liz's dream. After extensive traveling and getting to know herself and the world better, Liz returned to school at the University of British Columbia where she studied Animal Science and was accepted at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. She graduated from the WCVM in 1990 with great distinction and became an associate in a small animal hospital in Burnaby.
Karen loves working with cats in all aspects of Veterinary medicine but has special interest in geriatric medicine and palliative care. She has experienced first-hand, as well as through the eyes of many pet guardians over her years of Veterinary practice, the intense and extremely valuable bond we develop with our pets and the joy they bring to our lives. She, therefore, strives to offer each patient and client a warm, thorough, compassionate approach to health care, regardless of stage of life or circumstance.
Jay was raised on a farm in northern BC with his cat “GRUB”. He went to university in Ottawa, then UBC where he completed his BSc (Agr). He went on to Vet school in Saskatoon, graduating in 1995. He returned to Vancouver to practice. Although a friend to all creatures great and small, he adores cats, and has made them his special area of interest. While not working, he can be found on his mountain bike, at the golf course, or hanging out with his two cats (“FAT TONY” and “ARIEL”).
Charlotte grew up in New Westminster where she graduated at the top of her class at Douglas College in the Veterinary Assistant program in 2012. She’s always had appreciation for animal's lives and a yearning to help the general animal population and inevitably worked her way into the veterinary world.
Ever since Mikaela was a young girl, she had an immense passion for furry critters, with the feline kind having a special place in her heart. She grew up in Deep Cove and her family had six wonderful kitties over the years that she adored and cared for.
Bianca was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario to a small family. She has always been surrounded by furry friends and can’t imagine her life without them.
Christine was born and raised in the beautiful Renfrew Heights of Vancouver. She graduated with honours from the Veterinary Assistant program at Granville College in 2016. Christine has always loved and enjoyed the companionship of animals. At home you can find her cuddling with her dog, " Happy" and her newly adopted boy "Gaston!" She continues to bring her love and passion for animals by providing the best care and love to all the kitties that visit our clinic since 2016.
Tiffany grew up in a small town in cottage country Ontario. She knew at a young age that she was destined to work with animals. She has cared for animals of all shapes and sizes; mice, hedgehogs, horses, goats, sheep, snakes, parrots, dogs and of course cats.
Heather was born and raised on the North Shore. From a very young age, she always had a feline friend by her side. After dipping her toes into the Atlantic to study psychology at Acadia University, she decided to follow her true passion. Heather returned home and attended Granville Business College to become a Veterinary Technician Assistant, graduating in the winter of 2017.
Yearly wellness consultations are especially important for cats because they are experts at hiding illnesses. It is common for cats to have serious medical problems and not show any signs until the condition is quite advanced. Most diseases can be managed more successfully when diagnosed and treated in the early stages. Wellness consultations are important because they provide an opportunity to prevent disease before your cat becomes seriously ill.
Laboratory samples are obtained by a veterinarian or registered veterinary technician (RVT) and submitted the same day to True North Veterinary Diagnostics located in Langley. True North is a full service laboratory providing a wide variety of testing including:
Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Parasitology, Endocrinology, Serology & Histology. These tests allow the veterinarians to make accurate diagnoses in order to formulate a treatment plan to make your unwell kitty healthy again. On senior kitties, some of these tests are also done annually as part of our comprehensive preventative approach to health care.
Our modern surgical suite is specifically designed for our feline patients and provides a safe and sterile environment. All of our surgical patients receive intravenous fluids during their procedures and the doctor and assistant are with the cat at all times monitoring their respiratory rate, heart rate and blood pressure. During all surgical procedures body temperature will be regulated. Although no anesthetic comes completely without risk, at All About Cats we use a very gentle and safe anesthetic protocol which allows for a quick and uneventful recovery.
