About Us
Here at Rouge River Animal Hospital we have a variety of staff members both two and four-legged. We pride ourselves on being friendly, compassionate, and dedicated to your pets needs. We here to offer the very best in healthcare for your pet.
Dr. Susan Campolongo graduated from OVC in ’82. She lives in Stouffville with her German Shepherd Summer who comes regularly to the hospital. Her family lives in Guelph. Her outside interests include tennis (she is a member of Unionville Tennis Club), swimming, music, and gardening.
Our clinic cats are two. Hamlet has been here since the hospital opened and is 18 years of age. Kenzi is our new addition only 7 months who is in training in how not to get into mischief and to behave. They spend the night at the hospital keeping watch and are usually found on the front desk occupying space and looking for affection and treats. Summer loves her felines, although they are her primary allergen. Summer will be 10 years old in May. She loves those meditreats and will let you know when she wants one.
Katherine is a registered veterinary technician, RVT. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the hospital and she is the one who looks after the patients while they are undergoing anesthesia. Katherine lives in Markham with twin girls, her husband is in computers and she has 2 cats and a sheltie dog Shay who often comes to work with her.
Our fulltime receptionist/veterinary assisant is Heather. She has a Great Dane named Evan, and two cats. Her previous experince includes working in a doggie daycare facility. She brings a warm and fuzzy feeling to our clinic and is easy to talk to. You will be sure to get a laugh or two from her. Our evening and weekend staff consist of Emily who was a coop student here, Hannah, Natalie who is a vet tech student, Jacquie, Kirby and Julia. Of course Sheri, who alot of you know from her day position is also working for us part time on Saturdays. She has been here the longest 10 years.

Our Veterinarians
Dr. Campolongo, DVM
Dr. Susan Campolongo graduated from OVC in ’82. She grew up in Guelph where her family including 2 brothers and mom still reside. She now lives in Stouffville. Her father was a medical doctor who practiced for over 50 years in Guelph. Originally headed for human medicine this was changed when the family dog Thunder was referred to OVC. She has had 2 German Shepherds Theia and Summer who were very special girls. She is now the proud owner of Sheriff, the boyfriend she has always wanted. Sheriff is of European origin and very handsome born June 2017. He is the new “sheriff” of Rouge River Animal Hospital. Her outside interests include tennis ( member of Unionville Tennis Club), swimming, gardening, music and crafts.

Receptionist
Anita Korkolevics
We are pleased to have Anita join our staff here. She has been working in a veterinary office for the past 13 years with a colleague of mine who passed away in January 2016. She has recently moved to Pickering. She owns beagles that are all rescues. She works with BOB- Big on Beagles, a Toronto based rescue group for which she also helps with fundraising. She is truly a people person. We love her as our receptionist.

Katherine
Katherine is a RVT and has been working in veterinary clinics for a number of years. She lives in Markham. Her husband is in computers with his own business. They have twin girls, Shay the Sheltie and 2 cats- Michelle and Storm.
Animal Care Attendants
Angela Ng
Angela is a former high school coop student at my hospital that now is working part time. She lives in Markham with her family and her dog Leon. Angela is wanting to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Ashley Quan
Ashley who was a co-op student here 2 years ago and is currently working here part time. She attends PEI University in the science program. She lives in Markham with her 3 dogs Ginseng, Daisy and Luka and her kitty Hero.
Brenda Kuo
Was a co-op student here this past year and now working part time. She lives in Markham with her family and dog Penny. She speaks hakka fluently and would like to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Michelle Kwok
Michelle has been working for us here part time for 2 years now. She also works at Parker Pet Care. Michelle would like to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and has this is her second time applying. She lives in Markham with her family and her best friend Riley. In September 2018 she is attending Ridgetown College in the RVT program.
Michelle Lai
MIchelle joined our staff in May 2017 working part time over the summer. She is currently going into her second year in Biomedical Sciences at Guelph. She is looking to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Michelle lives in Markham with her family and two turtles.
Services
Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring
During surgery and other medical procedures, our team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians monitors all patients to ensure their safety. We monitor every procedure, regardless of whether it’s routine or more advanced. The type of anesthesia we use depends on the procedure. Some require general anesthesia, while others may only call for local anesthesia. For more specific information on our protocols, please see the individual descriptions or contact us with any questions.
Avian Medicine and Surgery
Budgies, cockatiels, parrots, and songbirds tend to live longer, healthier lives when they receive regular veterinary care. We can provide nutritional counselling, health assessments, grooming assistance, sexing, faecal parasite testing, medical and surgical services, and annual physicals. In addition, we can discuss general care, disease prevention, safety, appropriate housing and toys, and breeding. We recommend that you bring your bird in for an initial checkup, then stop by once a year to ensure that he or she remains healthy and isn’t hiding signs of illness.
Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery
Budgies, cockatiels, parrots, and songbirds tend to live longer, healthier lives when they receive regular veterinary care. We will do wing clipping, beak and nail trimming. Birds are good at hiding signs of illness, so if you notice that your bird is acting unusual or if something just doesn't seem right, call us as soon as possible. We understand the unique health needs of our smaller pets.This includes ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits. Some do require more specialized care. We offer advice and referrals for both birds and our smaller pets to veterinarians that specialize in these little fellows. Please understand that even though these pets are very small standard exam fees still apply.
