Charlene Somer is the owner and veterinarian at Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital. She is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College and has been practicing small animal medicine in Toronto since 2004. Charlene is passionate about veterinary medicine, recognizing the significant bond between owners and their animal companions. Her goal as a veterinarian is to enhance that bond by providing excellent health care to all of our four-legged family members.
Charlene enjoys jogging and vacationing with her family but she hates having to leave her dog Georgia behind. Charlene adopted Georgia from the OSPCA when she was only 3 months old. Georgia was found in a dumpster with a broken leg. But the lucky pup now shares her home and her life with many extended two and four legged friends and a mom who’s a pet doctor!
Shira Ben-Ari is a part-time veterinarian at Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital. We are very excited to have her join our team.
Dr. Ben-Ari began her career in 2004 in Israel, working mainly with small animals. She is a former equestrian and always dreams about getting back into horseback riding. She loves working with dogs and cats and when not busy working, she likes to spend time with her husband, three daughters and her cat “Tzoof” which she brought from Israel.
Dr. Ben-Ari is looking forward to providing excellent and compassionate medical care to all of our special patients.
Nicole is our Office Manager and Registered Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Seneca college in 2009. Nicole is passionate about animal health and she is very happy with her career decision to be able to provide medical nursing care for our furry family members. She shares her home with Milo, a very hyper Yorkshire terrier who she adopted from her training program at Seneca and Febe, a very happy Bernese Mountain Dog. Nicole enjoys her girl nights with her friends and vacationing at the cottage.
Kelly has been providing customer service in the veterinary industry for over 15 years. She will likely be the first person you see as you walk through the door or the first person you talk to when you call. Kelly is the proud mother of 2 boys. When she is not at DSAH, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family.
At Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital we recommend that all pets undergo a complete wellness exam at least once a year. We believe that your pet is healthier when you know more about his or her health care plan. Exams are a great time to share information with you about your pet’s health. We may ask you questions about your pet’s diet and lifestyle and we encourage you to ask any questions you may have about your pet’s health.
At Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital, we place a strong emphasis on preventive medicine in order to provide our patients with the best quality of life.
Vaccines are the cornerstone of your pet’s preventive health care plan. At Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital, we vaccinate your pet based on his or her unique individual needs and lifestyle. However, we recommend all pets receive vaccinations against leptospirosis, parvovirus, and distemper, due to the large population of raccoons in the city. We also offer three-years rabies vaccinations for our dogs and cats. Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, many common diseases once fatal to pets are now prevented through the use of vaccinations.
