Veterinary Specialists of North Texas (VSNT) is a small animal referral hospital specializing in the diagnosis and complete treatment of cancer and for diseases of the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and nervous system. We pride ourselves in our ability to treat the whole patient in the best possible manner through a team of dedicated specialists and technicians committed to caring for your pet with cutting-edge therapy and loving attention.
Why a Specialist? Specialists bring a greater understanding of and experience with the management of complex cases and have knowledge of unusual, uncommon, or rare diseases in animals. In addition, a Specialist may have diagnostic equipment not generally used by your family veterinarian. In addition to completing undergraduate training and four years of veterinary school, Board-Certified Veterinary Specialists are similar to their human medical counterparts in that they have completed an internship and residency in their specialized field (an additional 3-5 years of training). In addition to this extensive training, a Veterinary Specialist must pass a rigorous examination process to achieve board certification.
Diagnostic imaging is the use of specialized diagnostic techniques to further evaluate parts of the body. Diagnostic imaging services provided by the staff of Veterinary Specialists of North Texas (VSNT) include:
Commonly called “Internists”, Internal Medicine Specialists focus on diagnosing and treating diseases of the internal organ systems. Veterinary Internal Medicine encompasses the disciplines of endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology/urology and respiratory disease. Veterinary internists are trained to handle a multitude of medical problems whether rare or complex.
Oncologists focus on diagnosing and managing cancer, no matter wher the tumor might be located.
Radiation oncology is the use of radiation to treat cancer. Radiation can be used by itself, or in conjunction with other modalities to fight cancer such as chemotherapy and surgery. Through the use of CT scans, a computer program is used to plan the radiation therapy in a way to maximize destruction of the tumor.
